“X2” and “Superman Returns” scribe turned filmmaker Michael Dougherty is set to direct the performance capture sci-fi adventure “Calling All Robots” for Disney Pictures and ImageMovers.
Story details for the animated tale are are being kept under wraps, but Dougherty tells Variety that it’s “a throwback to old Godzilla movies.”
Dougherty will co-write the project with Breehn Burns and Simeon Wilkins, who will serve as artists and visual designers on the project.
Dougherty himself began his career as a very talented animator, and some of his unique drawings can still be found at his official site.
His directorial debut, the highly raved about Halloween-themed horror/comedy “Trick ‘R Treat,” is currently unscheduled but should be released sometime this year.
