Mike Barker (“The Handmaid’s Tale,” “Fargo”) is set to direct the film adaptation of Stephen King and Peter Straub’s 1984 bestselling fantasy novel “The Talisman” for Amblin Partners and The Kennedy/Marshall Company.
The story follows a twelve-year-old boy who goes on a quest for the mystical Talisman which can save his dying mother. But to reach his goal, Jack must make his way not only across the breadth of the United States but also through the wondrous and menacing parallel world of ‘The Territories’.
At last report, Josh Boone (“The Fault in Our Stars”) was penning the script but now “Buried” scribe Chris Sparling is attached to pen the screenplay. Frank Marshall will produce.
The project joins the four Stephen King film adaptations on the way this year including “Pet Sematary,” “In the Tall Grass,” “IT: Chapter Two” and “Doctor Sleep” while HBO’s TV adaptation of “The Outsider” is in the works.
