Miike’s “Shield of Straw” Gets A Remake

Luc Besson’s EuropaCorp and and Chris and Paul Weitz’s Depth of Field are teaming with All Nippon Entertainment Works and Nippon Television on an English-language remake of Takashi Miike’s Japanese spy thriller “Shield of Straw”.

Based on Kazuhiro Kiuchi’s novel “Wara no Tate,” the original story centered on a team of five police officers charged with protecting an accused killer who has been marked for death by the billionaire grandfather of his latest victim. The film was a finalist for the Palme d’Or at the Cannes Film Festival.

Creighton Rothenberger and Katrin Benedikt, the duo behind the “Olympus Has Fallen” franchise, will pen the script while Naoaki Kitazima, Chris Weitz, Andrew Miano, Sandy Climan and Dan Balgoyen will produce.
