Microsoft’s Gamescom 2015 Trailers

Earlier this morning, Microsoft gave its press conference briefing at the GamesCom 2015 convention in Cologne, Germany where several announcements were made and a bunch of trailers premiered.

The biggest news of the conference was the surprise announcement of “Halo Wars 2,” a sequel to the 2009 real time strategy game which is coming from The Creative Assembly, the creators of “Alien Isolation”. The game will be exclusive to Xbox One and Windows 10 in late 2016.

343 Industries also announced the return of Halo eSports with the Halo World Championship boasting a $1 million prize pool and kicking off this Fall.

The Windows 10 experience will be a big part of the redesigned Xbox One dashboard in November and will feature voice assistant Cortana, and DVR compatibility will be included from early next year.

Backwards compatibility will launch in November with over one hundred 360 games being compatible. All future Xbox 360 Games with Gold titles will be compatible with Xbox One. Microsoft is pushing big with these, bundling free 360 copies of “Just Cause 2” with “Just Cause 3” for XB1, and both “Rainbow Six Vegas” games for those getting the XB1 version of “Rainbow Six Siege”.

Onto the game related announcements and “Quantum Break” finally has a release date – April 5th 2016. Footage shown at the convention show not only scenes from the game but the tie-in TV element including actors Shawn Ashmore, Aidan Gillen, and Lance Reddick.

“Crackdown 3” will utilise the Microsoft cloud to “provide 20 times more computational power” than the Xbox One. Will that work? We’ll see, but the game does promise 100% destructible environments.

The upcoming “Rise of the Tomb Raider” game boasts a lot larger environments that the acclaimed 2013 reboot with three times larger game exploration spaces, multiple puzzles that all work together to solve one big puzzle, new traversal mechanics which allow for Lara to climb trees and swim underwater, and no loading screens in the game aside from the initial start up or if you die.

Turn 10 Studios announced four additional tracks for “Forza Motorsport 6” along with all-new Forza Race Leagues that offer competitive 24-player multiplayer on dedicated servers.
