Michelle Williams is in talks to star as iconic rocker Janis Joplin in the biopic “Janis” for Borderline Films, Uncommon Productions, Interal, and Seven Hills Productions.
“Martha Marcy May Marlene” director Sean Durkin will helm the project about the 1960s rock-and-roller rose to fame with Big Brother and the Holding Company before dying of a drug overdose in 1970 at the young age of 27. The film will depict the last six months of her life.
Peter Newman, who has long held rights to a good portion of Joplin’s catalog, is producing. Williams is currently in rehearsals for the Hugh Jackman-led “The Greatest Showman on Earth”.
