After thirteen years on the series, fan favorite Michael Weatherly is opting to exit CBS’ high-rating drama “NCIS”. In a statement issued Tuesdsay, the network confirmed the actor and his Agent Tony DiNozzo character will leave the show at the end of its current season.
The news comes four days after the actor-producer pleaded no contest to a DUI charge and was sentenced to a three-month alcohol and Mothers Against Drunk Driving program. Weatherly confirmed his departure from the series on Twitter, thanking fans in the process.
Weatherly is the second lead from “NCIS to exit the long-running show following Cote de Pablo’s departure in the eleventh season. Weatherly will continue to be involved with CBS though and has a development deal with CBS Television Studios.
