Michael Shannon On Zod’s “Dawn” Role

With Zack Snyder’s “Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice” showing the fallout of the Superman/General Zod battle at the end of “Man of Steel,” one key element is that Zod’s body will figure into the plot somehow.

As suggested by the trailer, Jesse Eisenberg’s Lex Luthor seems to have Zod’s body in the film and has likely experimented on it. That seems to be the case according to Vulture who spoke with Zod actor Michael Shannon about his brief return in the upcoming film. He revealed at one point on the set he was trapped in a portable toilet due to hand prosthetics:

“I was in my costume, and I couldn’t use my fingers because in the sequel I have flippers instead of hands. So I had these wax flippers on my fingers, and I couldn’t open the door, and I could hear Zack [Snyder, the director] being like, ‘Where’s Shannon? Where the f–k is he?’ and the whole crew was standing around. I was like, knocking on the door with my flippers, ‘Let me out of here!’.”

A kindly craft service worker ultimately let Shannon out of the loo. Why Zod suddenly has flipper hands though has people guessing. Has Lex created incomplete clones of Zod? We’ll find out when the film opens March 25th.
