Michael Mann Helms Hbo Maxs Tokyo Vice

Oscar-nominated director Michael Mann is coming to television, the famed “Heat” and “The Insider” auteur will helm the pilot episode of HBO Max’s upcoming crime drama series “Tokyo Vice”.

Based on the 2009 non-fiction memoir by Jake Adelstein, Tony-winning playwright J.T. Roger will adapt the scripts which follow Adelstein’s first-hand account of the Tokyo Metropolitan Police beat.

Ansel Elgort plays an American journalist who embeds himself into the Tokyo Vice police squad to reveal corruption, chronicling his daily descent into the neon-soaked underbelly of Tokyo, where nothing is what it seems.

Ken Watanabe has signed on to play Hiroto Katagiri, an organized crime detective and mentor to the journalist – helping guide him along the thin line between the cops and the world of organized crime.

Elgort, John Lesher, Emily Gerson Saines and Destin Daniel Cretton will executive produce.
