MGM Creating Original Series For Vudu

Mgm Creating Original Series For Vudu

Walmart has come to a partnership deal with MGM to create original series based on franchises from its extensive film and TV catalog.

Those shows will then be exclusively licensed to Walmart’s Vudu service in North America including their free, ad-supported Movies On Us service. The first MGM-produced short-form original series for Vudu is slated to debut in the first quarter of 2019 on Movies On Us.

The company says its aim is to produce “family-friendly, advertiser-friendly content – which won’t be viewable anywhere else.” Vudu plans to commission and license original shows from others as well, but say they don’t plan on spending billions to become the next Netflix, Hulu or Amazon Prime.

In fact, there appears to be no plans for any type of subscription VOD service for the near future, as they intend to stick with their AVOD service. Vudu is the third-largest transactional VOD service in the U.S. behind Apple’s iTunes and Amazon Video.
