The first image of Meryl Streep as former British Prime Minister Margaret Thatcher in the upcoming biopic “The Iron Lady” has been released (via The Hollywood News).
Shooting began on location in the UK on January 31st and follows how Thatcher smashed through the barriers of gender and class to be heard in the very male-dominated world of British politics, and the price she paid for achieving and holding onto power.
Streep says in a statement – “The prospect of exploring the swathe cut through history by this remarkable woman is a daunting and exciting challenge. I am trying to approach the role with as much zeal, fervour and attention to detail as the real Lady Thatcher possesses – I can only hope my stamina will begin to approach her own!.”
Joining Streep in the film is the likes of Jim Broadbent, Olivia Colman, Nicholas Farrell, Susan Brown, Roger Allam, Anthony Head, Julian Wadham, Pip Torrens, Nick Dunning, Richard E Grant, David Westhead, Angus Wright and John Sessions.
