Several years on since the release of Disney’s “Frozen” and a few fans have been taking their love of the franchise to an interesting place – creating a social media campaign with the hashtag #GiveElsaAGirlfriend.
“Frozen” broke the mold, Elsa making it all the way through the film without romance even being discussed and the movie itself focusing more on her relationship with her sister. Now these fans are asking them to do it again, in the process Disney would have its first gay princess.
Now Idina Menzel, who provides Elsa’s voice, tells ET Canada she has no problem at all with the idea: “I think it’s great. Disney’s just gotta contend with that. I’ll let them figure that out. No matter what, [playing Elsa] changed my life.”
Disney has not yet commented on the idea of a gay Disney Princess, but the studio has come under fire recently for lack of diversity on screen – specifically in terms of sexuality.
