“Braveheart” screenwriter Randall Wallace is reportedly writing a follow-up to Mel Gibson’s Biblical blockbuster “The Passion of the Christ”.
The follow-up will reportedly tell the story of the resurrection of Jesus. Wallace admitted to the project after revealing to THR that it is becoming too difficult to keep under wraps.
He and Gibson, who recently made the WW2 film “Hacksaw Ridge,” reporteldy began to get serious about the “Passion” sequel on the set of that film and demand in the Christian community influenced his and Gibson’s willingness to do another film.
No studio or financial backing has been lined up for the project, which is still in the early script stages. But Wallace indicates there are several financiers interested in investing.
The first film, released in 2004, made $612 million worldwide on a $30 million production budget.
