“Deadwood” star Ian McShane is returning to television, scoring the key role of Mr. Wednesday in Starz’s TV series adaptation of Neil Gaiman’s “American Gods”. Shooting is slated to begin in April in Toronto
The story centers around Shadow Moon (Ricky Whittle), an ex-con who becomes bodyguard and traveling partner to the enigmatic Mr. Wednesday. The pair become drawn into a battle between the old gods of ancient mythology, and the new gods of money, media and technology.
The show is being handled by the producers of two of the most acclaimed NBC shows of the past decade – “Hannibal” showrunner Bryan Fuller, and “Kings” producer Michael Green who worked with McShane on that short lived but highly regarded drama.
Both will serve as executive producers, writers and showrunners while Gaiman will also write episodes of the adaptation.
