Following their success together with “Eastbound & Down” and more recently “Succession,” filmmaker and producer Adam McKay is expanding his relationship with HBO.
McKay has closed a five-year, first-look pact for his newly launched Hyperobject Industries with the premium cable network. The first project of this pact will be a limited series focused on Miami Herald investigative reporter Julie K. Brown’s upcoming book about the late disgraced financier Jeffrey Epstein.
Brown’s reporting has sparked renewed interest in the Epstein case and was a driving force behind his arrest last July on sex trafficking charges. Brown, McKay and Kevin Messick will executive produce the series and McKay will helm the pilot.
Earlier this year, McKay landed a pilot order for the 1980s-set look at the NBA’s L.A. Lakers “Showtime” with that project now awaiting word on a formal series order.
