One of the surprise no shows at this year’s Warner Bros. Pictures panel during San Diego Comic-Con was the lack of any mention of Chris McKay’s “Nightwing” film.
The panel did show off new logos for the DC Extended Universe’s upcoming slate of films, but “Nightwing” wasn’t among them. Responding to a fan question regarding that, McKay (“The LEGO Batman Movie”) said on Twitter:
“I’ve turned down films because they were backed into a release date that made it difficult to make a great film. This isn’t going to be like that. I want this movie to blow you away. We need time to get it right.”
That makes a welcome change from many filmmakers who’re often under pressure from a large studio to meet a release date. For now, only four DCEU projects are currently slated – “Justice League,” “Aquaman,” “Shazam” and “Wonder Woman 2” with “Flashpoint” likely to set a date soon.
