McKay Goes “Uptown Saturday Night”

Adam McKay is in negotiations to direct the remake of “Uptown Saturday Night” at Warner Bros. Pictures and Overbrook Entertainment says Deadline.

The studio hopes to land Will Smith and Denzel Washington for this new take on the 1974 comedy which starred Bill Cosby and Sidney Poitier as friends who visit an illegal nightclub where they are mugged.

One of them though had a winning lottery ticket with their cash, which gives the duo incentive to find the crooks and get back their wallets. Tim Dowling penned the recent script draft.

If McKay signs on he would likely do this once he wraps work on the “Anchorman” sequel.
