Ewan McGregor is in final negotiations to play Lumiere in the live-action film adaptation of Disney’s “Beauty and the Beast”.
A major supporting role, the suave maitre’d is turned into a candelabra by the curse that falls on the prince’s castle. He also gets several songs including arguably the film’s most famous number – “Be Our Guest”.
He isn’t the only new addition. Variety reports that Stanley Tucci has closed a deal to join the cast. Tucci will be playing Cadenza the grand piano, a new character to the realm who is described as a neurotic maestro.
Bill Condon is directing the film which begins production next month Shepperton Studios in London. McGregor and Tucci join an all-star lineup that includes Emma Watson as Belle, Dan Stevens as the Beast/Prince, Luke Evans as Gaston, Josh Gad as Le Fou, Ian McKellen as Cogsworth and Audra McDonald as Garderobe.
