McGregor To Direct “American Pastoral”

Ewan McGregor is set to make his feature directorial debut on the film adaptation of the Pulitzer-winning Philip Roth novel “American Pastoral” for Lakeshore Entertainment.

McGregor, who also stars in the film alongside Jennifer Connelly and Dakota Fanning, takes over for Phillip Noyce who was attached as director for over a decade.

McGregor plays a legendary high school athlete who grows up to marry a former beauty queen (Connolly) and inherits his father’s business. His seemingly perfect life shatters when his daughter (Fanning) rebels by becoming a revolutionary and committing a deadly act of political terrorism during the Vietnam War.

John Romano (“The Lincoln Lawyer”) adapted the script and filming is slated to begin in September in Pittsburgh. Tom Rosenberg and Gary Lucchesi are producing.
