Matthew McConaughey is being sought for a key role in the film adaptation of Stephen King’s epic novel saga “The Dark Tower” at Sony Pictures and MRC.
The Wrap says McConaughey is wanted for the part of the film’s lead Roland Deschain, aka The Gunslinger. THR on the other hand is said to be offered the film’s villain Randall Flagg aka The Man in Black.
Nikolaj Arcel (“A Royal Affair”) helms the film which also has a tie-in television series in-development simultaneously. Akiva Goldsman and Jeff Pinker have penned the script for the film which will be based primarily on the first book in the seven volume series.
King says: “I’m excited that ‘The Dark Tower’ is finally going to appear on the screen. Those who have traveled with Roland and his friends in their search for the Dark Tower are going to have their long-held hopes fully realized. This is a brilliant and creative approach to my books.”
Ron Howard was initially planning to direct the first film but is now involved in producing the series through his Imagine Entertainment label alongside Brian Grazer and Erica Huggins. The first film is targeting a January 13th 2017 release.
