McCarthy In Talks For Ursula In Disney’s “Mermaid”

Mccarthy In Talks For Ursula In Disneys Mermaid

Melissa McCarthy is reportedly in early talks to play the sea witch Ursula, the villain of the live-action adaptation of “The Little Mermaid” for Disney Pictures.

Rob Marshall (“Mary Poppins Returns”) is helming the live-action take on the 1989 film which aims to “make contemporary and compelling casting choices” whilst still paying homage to the original about a mermaid princess who seeks to meet a human prince on land.

David Magee wrote the script for the new take. The original songs from the animated hit (eg. “Under the Sea,” “Poor Unfortunate Souls,” “Part of Your World”) will be included, as will new tunes from Alan Menken and Lin-Manuel Miranda. Miranda, Marshall, Marc Platt and John DeLuca are producing.
