Matthew Fox To Serve An “Emperor”

Matthew Fox (“Lost”) will headline Peter Webber’s Japan-set political thriller epic “Emperor” for Fellers Film and Krasnoff/Foster Entertainment says Variety.

Inspired by true events and set amidst the uncertainties of the days following the Japanese surrender at the end of WWII, Fox will play Gen. Bonner Fellers – one of the leading Japanese experts of General Douglas MacArthur who served as the de facto ruler of Japan.

Fellers is charged with reaching a decision of historical importance: should Emperor Hirohito be tried and hanged as a war criminal?

The story also covers Fellers’ love affair with a Japanese exchange student he met years before in the U.S., and his quest to find her in the ravaged post-war landscape.

Webber (“The Girl With a Pearl Earring”) helms from a script by David Klass and Vera Blasi. Shooting kicks off at the end of the month in New Zealand and Japan.
