Former “Lost” star Matthew Fox has signed on to play an assassin in QED’s “I, Alex Cross”, a reboot of the franchise based on the character in the James Patterson novels reports Deadline.
In the book series, Alex Cross is a forensic psychologist who hunts down various killers. Morgan Freeman played the role twice in 1997’s well-regarded “Kiss the Girls” and 2001’s less well-received “Along Came a Spider”.
Tyler Perry, best known for writing and directing his own films, stars as Cross in this incarnation which will be directed by Rob Cohen. Cohen and scribe Mark Moss penned the script which includes several twists that are different from the novel.
Fox plays Michael Sullivan, a killer known as the Butcher of Sligo. When Cross thwarts one of his killing attempts, Sullivan makes his retribution personal, by gruesomely killing the detective’s wife.
Ed Burns has also signed on to play Tommy Kane, Cross’s partner. Three studios are presently fighting it out for the project with a deal to be locked down shortly.
