Matt Smith (“Doctor Who,” “The Crown”) is in final talks to star in Sony’s “Spider-Man” spin-off film “Morbius” alongside Jared Leto and Adria Arjona. The project would be the second film in Sony’s own Marvel universe following last year’s “Venom”.
Daniel Espinosa is directing the spin-off film which follows renowned biochemist Dr. Michael Morbius who attempts to cure a fatal blood disease by injecting himself with a treatment serum derived from bats.
This transforms him into the anti-hero Morbius who has all the qualities of a vampire, including a taste for human blood. There are no details about Smith’s character other than him having a major role in the movie.
Burk Sharpless and Matt Sazama co-wrote the script while Avi Arad and Matt Tolmach will produce with Lucas Foster. Smith will soon be seen in the “Mapplethorpe” biopic, the thriller “Official Secrets” and “Star Wars: Episode IX”.
