Former “Doctor Who” star Matt Smith is reportedly interested in playing the lead role of magizooligist Newt Scamander in the upcoming “Harry Potter” film series spin-off “Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them”.
The report comes from The Sun and The Irish Examiner which suggest that the Eleventh Doctor has not only been tipped for the role of Scamander but is the favorite to play the part. Filming on the project is slated to start this summer in London.
“Harry Potter” author J.K. Rowling is penning the screenplay for the film which will be set in New York in the 1920s and follow the adventurous tales of the author of one of Hogwarts textbooks. Smith next appears in this Summer’s “Terminator Genisys” in a key role.
