Exactly one week after it was reported that “Dawn of the Planet of the Apes” director Matt Reeves was in negotiations to helm “The Batman” for Warner Bros. Pictures, THR says those negotiations have now broken down.
The trade indicates Reeves has exited the talks, though the studio is intent on pushing forward with the movie no matter what and say talks could possibly resume ‘when heads cool’.
Ridley Scott and Fede Alvarez were reportedly among the names on the shortlist should the deal with Reeves not work out. Ben Affleck was originally attached to direct, but is opting to concentrate on acting in the film.
An official release date for the Affleck and Geoff Johns-penned film hasn’t been set. The split comes in the wake of a rumor earlier this week that Reeves was being sought to helm multiple DCEU films in the near future.
