A month ago he was rumored, two weeks ago he was in talks, a week ago talks broke down, now Matt Reeves has officially closed a deal to direct “The Batman” according to a press release from the studio.
The studio’s priority has been to get a director on the project fast so it can stick to its timetable, and there was always optimism a deal would get done despite last week’s issues which has been rumored to be over salary.
Reeves comes in after Ben Affleck stepped aside to focus on the role of the Caped Crusader. Interestingly enough the press release makes zero mention of Affleck.
Reeves says in a statement: “I have loved the Batman story since I was a child. He is such an iconic and compelling character, and one that resonates with me deeply. I am incredibly honored and excited to be working with Warner Bros. to bring an epic and emotional new take on the Caped Crusader to the big screen.”
