Matt Bomer (“Magic Mike XXL,” “American Horror Story: Hotel”) has scored the lead role in TriStar Television and Amazon Studios’ drama pilot “The Last Tycoon”.
Based on F. Scott Fitzgerald’s final unfinished novel, the 1930s set story follows Hollywood’s first wunderkind studio executive Monroe Stahr as he climbs to the height of power against his mentor and current head of the studio Pat Brady.
Stahr and Brady are based on Irving Thalberg and Louis B. Mayer respectively. Elia Kazan helmed a 1976 previous film adaptation of the work, that film starring Robert De Niro as Stahr.
“Captain Phillips” and “Shattered Glass” scribe Billy Ray will pen and direct the pilot, and will executive produce with Chris Keyser. It is expected to debut on the streaming service next year.
