Little-known Italian actress Matilda Lutz (“The Fifth Wheel,” “Someone Beautiful”) is set to play the female lead in “Rings,” the sequel/restart of the “The Ring” franchise.
It hasn’t been confirmed. but it’s expected this will keep the continuity of events in 2002’s “The Ring” and 2005’s “The Ring Two” rather than reboot the franchise. However, it will feature a brand new cast with Naomi Watts not expected to return.
The story is said to still feature the tormented Samara and a deadly videotape, but no further specifics have been released including details of Matilda Lutz’s character.
F. Javier Gutierrez has signed on to direct the project which David Loucka, Jacob Aaron Estes and Akiva Goldsman have worked on. Walter F. Parkes and Laurie MacDonald are producing.
