Mathieu Amalric (“Quantum of Solace,” “The Diving Bell and the Butterfly”) has replaced the previously cast Louis Garrel in Roman Polanski’s film adaptation of David Ives’ play “Venus in Fur”.
The Tony nominated two-person work deals with a filmmaker (Amalric) lamenting the fact he can’t find a suitable actress for his adaptation of the novel which inspired the term masochism.
At the last minute, an actress (Polanski’s wife Emmanuelle Seigner) arrives who seems to be the antithesis of everything he needs. Yet over the course of the play, the power balance completely shifts until she has established total dominance over him.
Originally slated to begin filming in Paris in November, the project was delayed slightly and has just begun production.
