Hunky “Hop” star James Marsden, “Dexter” star Michael C. Hall and Oscar winner Melissa Leo are all attached to star in the drama “The Dead Circus” for Palermo Pictures reports Deadline.
Based on John Kaye’s novel, the story deals with the strange death of I Fought The Law singer Bobby Fuller. 23-year-old Fuller died a week after his song became a hit in 1966 and was ruled a suicide. This, despite his body being found battered and having had gasoline poured down his throat.
The drama follows a grieving screenwriter who sets out on a crusade to solve the mystery of Fuller’s death. Michael Shannon was also linked to the project but his reps say scheduling conflicts have knocked him out of the running.
Hall will play a corrupt, wheelchair-bound manager of the dead musician. Marsden will play Charles Manson, and Leo will play a Manson Family matriarch who tells the writer the answers may be found in 16 mm snuff films buried in Death Valley.
Kaye and Adam Davenport co-adapted the script while John Palermo will produce.
