“Mean Girls” director Mark Waters has signed on to helm a live-action family comedy called “Magic Camp” for Disney Pictures.
The Tracking Board reports that comedian Steve Martin in talks to star in the film which follows a rigid and cautious banker who returns to the summer camp he attended as a boy: a camp for magic. While he sets out to help a young group of rag-tag magicians, he also has an eye on winning the Golden Wand competition.
The project has long been in development, with several writers taking turns at the script but without a director until now. Noah Harpster and Micah Fitzerman-Blue worked on the most recent draft of the script while Suzanne Todd will produce.
