Tony and Olivier award-winning actor Mark Rylance has been cast as the benevolent giant title character in the Steven Spielberg-directed “The BFG” for DreamWorks Studios and Disney Pictures.
An adaptation of Roald Dahl’s 1982 children’s novel, the story follows a young girl, the Queen of England and the BFG, who set out on an adventure to capture the evil, man-eating giants who have been invading the human world.
Melissa Mathison adapted the script and Spielberg will shoot the project in early 2015 ahead of a July 1st 2016 release. Rylance is currently working with Spielberg on the Tom Hanks-led Cold War spy thriller “St. James Place”.
