Last week, Walt Disney Pictures and Lucasfilm announced the official cast list for “Star Wars: Episode IX” which will include the late Carrie Fisher returning via previously shot footage.
The press release made it clear that Fisher’s return would not require digital trickery or recasting, but would be actual footage taken during the making of J.J. Abrams’ “Star Wars: The Force Awakens”. Now her longtime co-star Mark Hamill, who will also return for the film, has weighed in online about his feelings on what will be Fisher’s final onscreen appearance:
“It’s bittersweet facing my final chapter without her-She is simply irreplaceable. I’m finding solace in the fact that she won’t BE replaced & would love the worldwide outpouring of affection from those who loved her when they heard the news. #CarrieOnForever”
The pair, along with new to the series Naomi Ackie and Richard E. Grant, join other returning cast members including Daisy Ridley, Adam Driver, John Boyega, Oscar Isaac, Anthony Daniels, Lupita Nyong’o, Domhnall Gleeson, Kelly Marie Tran, Joonas Suotamo, Billie Lourd and Billy Dee Williams reprising his original trilogy role of Lando Calrissian.
“Star Wars: Episode IX” will begin filming at London’s Pinewood Studios tomorrow. Abrams helms the film which he co-wrote with Chris Terrio. The new film will be released December 2019.
