“500 Days of Summer” director Marc Webb tells /Film that he is developing a big screen adaptation of Tim Tharp’s “The Spectacular Now” for Fox Searchlight.
‘Summer’ scribes Scott Neustadter and Michael H. Weber are adapting the novel of a 17 year old charm monger who drinks too much as he negotiates the world of growing up.
“it’s a very realistic portrayl of what it’s like to be a kid. And it has a very frank depiction of sex, alcholhol and that sort of thing” says Webb about what attracted him to the project.
Webb hasn’t decided his next project despite the trades linking him to post-apocalyptic drama “Age of Rage”. Of that film Webb says “it’s in the early stages, so I can’t really talk about it because its not written. I don’t even know how it got out there. I wrote a treatment for it and I’m working on the story. [It’s] probably going to take a while to get through.”
