Comedian and podcaster extraordinaire Marc Maron has scored the male lead role in Netflix’s 1980s wrestling comedy “GLOW,” joining the likes of Alison Brie and Betty Gilpin.
GLOW – aka Gorgeous Ladies of Wrestling – is inspired by the real story of the 1980s female wrestling league. The ten-episode comedy is set in Los Angeles and follows Ruth (Alison Brie), an out-of-work actress who finds one last chance to live out her dreams in the form of a weekly series about female wrestlers.
Maron will play Sam Sylvia, a washed-up Hollywood director who has a very complicated history with women – and now must lead fourteen of them on the journey to wrestling stardom.
“Orange Is the New Black” duo Carly Mensch and Jenji Kohan along with “Homeland” producer Liz Flahive are behind the project which will be Maron’s first gig since the announcement of the end of IFC’s “Maron” series.
