With the first “Mamma Mia!” movie proving a massive worldwide success, the green lighting of a sequel seemed a no brainer. There was a complication though. The first had the luxury of an existing stage musical to adapt, so the second would have to come up with a new angle.
It took a decade but they came up with one, and it was to look back at the early days of several of the key characters and see how relationships change over the years.
Returnees Amanda Seyfried, Meryl Streep, Julie Walters, Christine Baranski, Pierce Brosnan, Colin Firth, Stellan Skarsgård and Dominic Cooper are joined in this outing by Lily James, Jeremy Irvine, Jessica Keenan Wynn, Alexa Davies, Hugh Skinner, Naoko Mori, Josh Dylan and even Cher in the new outing.
Today, Universal Pictures has released a one-minute teaser video announcing that the first trailer for the movie is slated to go online tomorrow. It’s what you’d expect, a lot of exuberance, excitement, hair waving, girls crumping, boys in speedos flipping, and more. The movie itself opens July 20th.
