Three major talents are teaming for a film about Phil Spector, the eccentric and legendary music producer who was convicted of second-degree murder last year.
The New York Times reports that Al Pacino will star, David Mamet will write and direct, and Barry Levinson will produce the project for HBO Films.
As the project is still in the very early stages of development, it’s unsure what aspects of Spector’s life will be covered in the project – a full on biopic, a film about his early days, or one about the murder and subsequent trial.
Last year prosecutors successfully argued that the record producer shot struggling actress Lana Clarkson in the foyer of his mansion in 2003. The trial made media headlines, helped along by the array of wigs Spector donned throughout.
