John Malkovich, Scott Glenn and Dylan Walsh have joined the cast of the horse-racing drama “Secretariat” for Disney Pictures says The Hollywood Reporter.
The story deals with the relationship between the 1973 Triple Crown-winning racehorse and his owner, Penny Chenery (Diane Lane), a housewife who knew little about horse racing when she took over her ailing father’s Virginia horse farm.
Malkovich will play Lucien Laurin, the former jockey who became Secretariat’s charismatic trainer. Walsh plays Lane’s husband, a successful but demanding attorney. Glenn plays a southern-bred aristocrat who loses the horse in a coin toss.
Randall Wallace directs the drama which Mark Ciardi and Gordon Gray are producing. Filming kicks off this week in Louisiana and Kentucky.
