Acting veteran Malcolm McDowell has been tapped to play media mogul and News Corp Chairman Rupert Murdoch in the upcoming film about disgraced former Fox News chief Roger Ailes which has been setup at Annapurna.
John Lithgow plays Ailes in the currently untitled feature which details his downfall and follows a group of female employees who bucked the culture of sexism at the network to oust the news baron from power.
Nicole Kidman will play Gretchen Carlson, the Fox News anchor who sued Ailes for harassment in July 2016, and Charlize Theron will portray Megyn Kelly, a network star who went public with her own story of abuse.
As more women came forward with similar allegations of sexual misconduct, Ailes was fired by Murdoch who was the one who put him in charge of the network in 1996.
Margot Robbie and Kate McKinnon also star in the film, while Charles Randolph (“The Big Short”) penned the script and Jay Roach (“Recount,” “Trumbo”) directs. The project is not to be confused with the Showtime series which tackles the same subject matter, that one stars Russell Crowe as Ailes and focuses more on the man himself.
