Maika Monroe (“It Follows”) has joined the cast of “Honey Boy,” the ‘sort of Shia LaBeouf biopic’ in the works at Automatik. Monroe will play an aspiring actress named Sandra.
The roman-a-clef story deals with LaBeouf’s relationship with his father at two different stages in his life: as a young boy (Noah Jupe) starting out as an actor and a young man (Lucas Hedges) with a burgeoning career.
LaBeouf is playing his own father at both stages of the story from a script he co-wrote with Otis Lort, a name he later admitted to making up – along with being the lead character’s name.
Natasha Lyonne, Martin Starr, Byron Bowers and Laura San Giacomo co-star in the film which Alma Har’el is directing as well as producing.
