Magnet Spreads “Black Death” In The U.S.

Making its third acquisition in as many days, Magnolia Pictures’ genre arm Magnet Releasing has scored North American distribution rights to British medieval thriller “Black Death”.

Set in plague-ridden medieval England, a young monk (Eddie Redmayne) is charged with leading a fearsome knight (Sean Bean) and his group of mercenaries to a remote marsh to hunt down a necromancer – a mysterious beauty able to bring the dead back to life.

Christopher Smith (“Severance”) directed the film which opened earlier this year in the UK. Carice van Houten, David Warner, Kimberley Nixon and Tim McInnerny also star.

Magnet is planning a first quarter 2011 theatrical release in the United States. The distributor acquired Andre Ovredal’s “The Troll Hunter” and Brad Anderson’s “Vanishing on 7th Street” earlier this week.
