“Parenthood” and “Scott Pilgrim vs. the World” actress Mae Whitman is in final negotiations to join the indie coming-of-age drama “The Perks of Being a Wallflower” for Summit Entertainment reports Variety.
Based on Stephen Chbosky’s 1999 coming-of-age novel, the story follows the trials and tribulations of a 15-year-old shy and unpopular high school student (Logan Lerman) who writes a series of letters to a mysterious penpal. Whitman will play Mary Elizabeth, a tattooed vegetarian who becomes his first girlfriend.
“Harry Potter” series regular Emma Watson has the lead female role. Chbosky adapted the screenplay from his own novel and makes his feature directorial debut on the project. Shooting kicks off next month in Pittsburgh.
