One of the most exciting sounding things about the upcoming second season of ABC’s “Marvel’s Agent Carter” is that the iconic character of long-time Marvel villainess Madame Masque will serve as Peggy’s arch-nemesis for the run.
In the comics Masque is a former debutante named Whitney Frost who became one of the criminal masterminds leading Marvel’s mafia and wears a golden mask originally due to facial scarring,
Executive producer Tara Butters tells Slashfilm that the new Masque will be a glamorous movie star with a secret life as Madame Masque. Asked about what was required to change the present day villain into a 1940s antagonist, Butters says:
“I think we’ve changed the look of her a bit obviously. We’ve made her an actress, which is very Hedy Lamar. She was a ’40s siren actress who was also a scientific genius, so that’s part of what we’re mining with this character.”
Butters confirms they have cast the role but are not allowed to announce it yet. She’s also excited about the fact that we’re getting a female villain in the Marvel universe – something we’ve not seen much of so far:
“I feel like that is something that… as much as there are not enough female heroes just on television, I feel like having a female villain is just as equally powerful.”
“Agent Carter” is expected to return to screens in early 2016.
