Out doing “Drive Angry 3D” promotion, filmmakers Patrick Lussier and Todd Farmer confirmed they’re in the midst of scripting the “Hellraiser” remake for Dimension Films, but are hesitant to call it a remake.
“We’re keeping it within the world of the box. What the box is and what the box does… To go in and tell the story of Frank and the family wouldn’t be right. What we went in to pitch with at Dimension was to come at it from a different angle, but go into the same world and see things you haven’t been able to see in the other movies. There have been so many films, how can we make this one different?” Lussier told STYD.
Lussier confirmed that despite reports, they’re delivering an R-rated film – “We had the contracts changed to specifically say we were delivering an R-rated film. The treatment we turned in, it was like, if you’re expecting a happy ending, stop reading now.”
The pair are also working on two other projects reports The Playlist. Farmer confirmed they’ve just finished a script draft of “Already Dead” (formerly titled “In Darkness”) which is being described as a “grown-up vampire courtroom thriller” with comparisons to “Jagged Edge”. Raffaella de Laurentiis is attached to produce but it’s still early days as notes are coming in.
Meanwhile, they’re also working on a gritty true crime drama called “Circle of Silence” about a New York police officer shot in 1972 in a Harlem Mosque which, all these decades later, is still an open case. Producer Bill Tyler and co-writer Jonathan Green have finished the script and it’s “doing the rounds” right now.
