Lupita Nyong’o (“Black Panther,” “12 Years a Slave”) is set to play the mother of comedian and “The Daily Show” host Trevor Noah in “Born a Crime,” a film adaptation of Noah’s 2016 memoir for Ark Angel Productions.
The book is the account of Noah’s growing up under apartheid rule in South Africa. Noah was conceived from a white father and a black mother under a regime in which mixed relations were punishable by months-long prison incarcerations.
Noah’s mother first concealed her son to keep him safe from the threat of being taken by government forces, and later gave everything to him in order to break a cycle of poverty and violence.
Noah, Nyong’o, Norman Aladjem, Derek Van Pelt and Sanaz Yamin are producing, but no writer or director is yet set.
