This past week saw rumors crop up online that J.J. Abrams’ upcoming “Star Wars: Episode IX” film was going to go by the title “Star Wars: Balance of the Force” – until people realised it was the title of an old digital pinball game. Then came “Star Wars: Rise of the Resistance”… which is actually the name of a new ride coming to Disneyland.
Much of the talk was stirred by tweeted comments from C-3P0 actor Anthony Daniels who seems to be hinting that a major announcement is about to happen but nothing is confirmed yet. Yesterday however came a surprise from Lucasfilm Story Group member Pablo Hidalgo. Hidalgo tweeted that the group, which essentially serve as the continuity checkers for the franchise, are unaware of the film’s title: “If it has a title, I don’t know it”.
Production on the new film is slated to wrap soon with production winding down. The first trailer is expected at the Star Wars Celebration expo in April with the title expected to be revealed before that point.
