“Manchester by the Sea” and “Lady Bird” actor Lucas Hedges has been set to play a young version of Shia LaBeouf in “Honey Boy” for Automatik Entertainment and Delirio Films.
LaBeouf co-wrote the Black List script using the pseudonym Otis Lort and will also portray Hedges’ father in the film. The story follows a child actor and his law-breaking, alcohol-abusing father attempt to mend their contentious relationship over the course of a decade.
The roman-a-clef story reflects many facets of LaBeouf’s life. LaBeouf got his big acting break on Disney Channel’s “Even Stevens” in 2000 and ping-ponged between twelve-step programs with his father, a former clown performer and recovering heroin addict, and film sets. When he left the series in 2003, film roles came pouring in from “Holes” to “Charlie’s Angels: Full Throttle,” “I, Robot” and “Constantine”.
Hedges’ role will be set around that same point in LaBeouf’s life when he was on the show in his late teens. Alma Har’el will direct the feature while Brian Kavanaugh-Jones and Chris Legget are producing.
