Lowery To Helm “Pete’s Dragon” Remake

“Ain’t Them Bodies Saints” director David Lowery is in negotiations to helm the remake of the classic 1977 family film “Pete’s Dragon” for Disney Pictures.

Lowery and Toby Halbrooks were hired a while back to write the script, but he wasn’t planning on directing at the time.

The original follows an orphan fleeing his abusive adoptive parents and finding a friend in the form of an animated dragon.

The new film reinvents the core of the original and won’t feature musical numbers this time around.

Lowery is also committed to an adaptation of Kevin Powers’ acclaimed novel “The Yellow Birds” which is now expected to go into production after this.
