Lost in Space Rebooted For Television

Legendary TV has begun development of a new TV series reboot of the “Lost in Space” franchise reports Deadline.

The original 1960s CBS TV series followed a scientist, his family and a military pilot who are sent on a mission to colonise deep space. A foreign agent, Dr. Zachary Smith, stows away onboard and sabotages the mission which causes the ship to veer off course and become lost in space. The series ran for three seasons and 83 episodes.

Matt Sazama and Burk Sharpless (“Dracula Untold”) have signed on to write the new adaptation and will executive produce.

New Line attempted to launch a film franchise based on the property with a Stephen Hopkins-directed film in 1998 starring Gary Oldman, William Hurt, Matt LeBlanc and Heather Graham.

An attempt was made in 2003 to re-launch the property as a TV series entitled “The Robinsons: Lost in Space”. A pilot, directed by John Woo, was shot but was neither picked up or aired.
