It’s official, “21 Jump Street” and “The LEGO Movie” writer/directors Phil Lord and Chris Miller are set to make a “Star Wars Anthology” film their next directing project.
The pair will helm a movie that will focus on a young Han Solo, whilst Lawrence Kasdan and Jon Kasdan will pen the script.
The project is NOT the previously announced second “Star Wars Anthology” feature which “Chronicle” filmmaker Josh Trank departed the other month. This Han Solo film will, however, supplant that movie in the studio’s release slate and is said to be targeting a May 25th 2018 release.
In an official statement, Lord and Miller say: “This is the first film we’ve worked on that seems like a good idea to begin with. We promise to take risks, to give the audience a fresh experience, and we pledge ourselves to be faithful stewards of these characters who mean so much to us. This is a dream come true for us. And not the kind of dream where you’re late for work and all your clothes are made of pudding, but the kind of dream where you get to make a film with some of the greatest characters ever, in a film franchise you’ve loved since before you can remember having dreams at all.”
What is happening with the other projects Lord and Miller are linked to is unclear. They’ve been tied to both “The Flash” film and further “LEGO Movie” projects at Warner Brothers, and a third “21 Jump Street” and animated “Spider-Man” project at Sony Pictures.
Speaking of “Star Wars Anthology” projects, the first one off the bat – ‘Rogue One – is rumored to be getting a familiar face. Birth Movies Death reports that Darth Vader will show up in the film, but will NOT be the primary villain.
The site says: “he will be working behind the scenes, pulling strings and will appear onscreen. Literally, I’m told – he’ll be showing up via view screen or holo projection or something.” That movie begins production soon ahead of a release late next year.
